Rusk with mice
Design: Piet Design
Hooray! A baby!
When a girl is born, Dutch people eat rusks with pink and white mice.
When a boy is born, Dutch people eat rusks with blue and white mice.
The mice are sugared anise seeds. Anise was seen early on as a medicinal herb that would aid the mother in a prosperous recovery.
Since 1860, pink mice were industrially produced by the firm De Ruijter in Baarn.
In 1994, blue and white mice were first made, which are served today at the birth of a boy. Until then, there were only pink mice for both girls and boys.
This paper rusk is easy to assemble without scissors or glue.
Built size: 8 x 8 x 1.5 cm.
