Tile boxes

Design: Piet Design

Fold your own block puzzle.

With these 16 boxes you can lay 6 different old Dutch tile tableaux.

They are also nice to put on the table at dinner with a present or chocolate in it.
Or use them as handout boxes at school.

Contents: 16 foldable cardboard boxes with tile motifs.
Size: 5 x 5 x 5 cm.
No scissors or glue needed.

From the folder a tray can be made into which the 16 boxes fit neatly.
This requires scissors and some glue.

The boxes feature Dutch tiles from the early 17th century.
These multicolored tiles were often made in the Netherlands when the well-known blue/white Delft version did not yet exist.
The production technique, using only four colors, was adopted from Southern Europe. At first, the tile painters also drew inspiration for the images from the south: pomegranates, bunches of grapes and exotic animals. Later they were inspired by their own environment and used Dutch tulips and the Dutch Lion.
On the early tiles, the corner motifs were just as important as the central image. The complete pattern only appears when at least four tiles are put together.
